I have been working intrinsically with the F4L team since 2016 and have been instrumental in formulating its visual identity and re-brand. My strong illustrative style has responsibly mirrored and developed the core principles and goals of F4L, evolving through close collaborative work in identifying the themes and visual emphasis. The result being an illustration rich synthesis of images and key messages fundamental to both its ethos and purpose.

Illustrations for the F4L Primary Resources, Primary Mental Health Resource, Primary RSE resource, Key Stage 3 Resources, and KS3 Mental Health resource are aimed at teachers, parents and children. My illustration skills, to appropriate to specific age groups, whilst maintaining a strong thematic graphic style, are showcased here.

Illustrations are hand drawn in pen and ink. Scanned at a high resolution, adapted, formatted and coloured in adobe Photoshop.

My brief was for clarity:

• Essence.
• Suggestion.
• Talking points and satisfaction.

The drawings did not so much need to entertain as much as capture on idea and throw it back at the target audience for discussion.

Many of the themes illustrated – on paper fairly abstract, such as community; illness; anxiety; friendship; poverty – challenged my drawing skills and strong abilities to distil a concept into form.

Throughout I was clear that I wanted the Facts4Life images to work as a brand. Clear, recognisable, printable, accessible, colourful and multi-disciplinary.
